In this spotlight interview, the department caught up with James—a 2022-2023 DUG leader—to learn more about his experience in anthropology's Research Apprenticeship Program. The Program aims to foster collaboration between students and faculty on faculty research.
"As a research apprentice, I will assist Professor Paja Faudree with her ongoing book project that examines how processes of commodification and globalization have transformed our perceptions of salvia, a psychedelic plant native to present-day Mexico.
I met Professor Faudree during her 'Intro to Linguistic Anthropology' class last spring. Since then, I have worked for her as a research assistant and am now one of her concentration advisees.
This semester, beyond acquainting myself further with Professor Faudree and the rest of the anthropology faculty, I hope to develop my research skills with an eye towards a senior thesis and graduate study."
