Welcome to Brown’s Anthropology Department!

This online home reflects our community of faculty, students, and staff who study humanity, past and present. The photographs illustrating our website were taken by recent Ph.Ds, current students, and faculty. We hope you’ll spend some time looking around our site.

Our undergraduate concentration (major) provides several different tracks or pathways through the concentration, allowing students to gain a breadth of knowledge about this diverse discipline, while also – if they wish – focusing in on one of our many subfields, like medical or biological anthropology.

Our graduate program offers training leading to a Ph.D. in anthropology (our specializations include anthropological archaeology of the Americas, linguistic anthropology, cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, and anthropology & population). Students are well supported during their time at Brown by a highly competitive funding package from the Graduate School

Members of our community regularly distinguish themselves with awards, honors, and publications. For recent accomplishments, please visit our news pageTwitter or Instagram. Meet our faculty here, our graduate students here, and our staff here. But don’t limit your exploration to our website! We warmly invite you to join us at our regular research talks and other events, so please stop by and visit us at the corner of Hope & Power in Providence!
