Research Interests Potentialities of resistance in the lives of precarious laborers in the Egyptian cinema industry

Biography

Mariz Kelada is PhD student in the Anthropology Department at Brown University. Her project focuses on potentialities of resistance in the lives of precarious laborers in the Egyptian cinema industry.

She completed a B.A. in English Literature at Cairo University in 2011, and M.A. in Anthropology and Sociology at the American University in Cairo 2014. Her M.A. thesis: “Makings of Imagination in Alternative Cultural Spaces in Cairo” was based on a yearlong ethnographic fieldwork, part of it was published in the International Journal of Sociology in 2014. Since 2010 she worked in the Egyptian alternative cultural sector on diverse projects, performances, researches and films.
