Congratulations to Coral Gimbernard on being named a recipient of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) program at Brown! Here’s what she told the Department of Anthropology about this incredible achievement:
“I was accepted to the Mellon Mays Fellowship, which supports undergraduate students committed to advancing rigorous scholarship in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. It is a two-year Fellowship through which I will receive intensive mentoring and over $20,000 in semester and summer research funding to eventually prepare me to pursue a doctoral education in Anthropology. Five students were chosen from this year's sophomore cohort. My project will be mentored by Katherine Mason and will explore experiences of mental health, embodiment, and fragmentation in postpartum Puerto Rican women.”
Since its launch at Brown in 1992, the MMUF program has supported 179 undergraduate fellows. To date, 40 Brown MMUF alumni have completed their PhDs, with many now serving as faculty members at colleges and universities nationwide.
